Double and triple glazed units are hermetically sealed.
The hermetic seal is what keeps the unit airtight.
As temperatures change, the air between the panes of glass expands, contracts and puts pressure on the seal.
Over time, and usually well in excess of ten years, the seal will weaken and ultimately fail.
