We are a small family run business with a long history in bench hand joinery, more recently specialising in sliding sash windows.
Our workshop, where we manufacture all of our products, is in Warth Mill, Diggle in the heart of Saddleworth.
Saddleworth Sash Windows is run by Michael Howe who has over 25 years joinery experience, passed down from his own father Jack Howe.
Michael worked alongside his father for many years and is now passing on the knowledge to his new apprentice and own son, Tom.

We can repair and restore your traditional sash windows.
Depending on the condition of the window it may be viable to restore the original; we can do this by: Renewing parting beads with draft proofing Renewing staff beads with draft proofing Re-attaching weights Replacing ropes and pulleys Replacing window furniture Replacing the sashes if outer.
Most original traditional sash windows were made using single glazing and can be very energy in-efficient.
Single glazing can also be a security risk.

Most people decide they want to have the sliding sash windows professionally sprayed using the Teknos system, as it is difficult to paint these intricate windows once installed.
Teknos are one of the leading manufacturers in the painting and finishing trade.
You can also choose between the traditional weight and pulley system or the simpler system which uses sash balances.
All this can be seen on our sample window which has been professionally sprayed.
All our windows and doors are constructed using the traditional mortice and Tenon joints and all made from solid, sustainable sections of timber (not engineered or veneered).

At Saddleworth Sash Windows, we recommend using Accoya sustainable wood for all our sash windows, doors and other joinery projects.
Accoya is a top of the range timber which can be used for Sash Windows, doors, decking and all other types of joinery projects.
It has an extremely low thermal conductivity and more durable than the best tropical hardwoods.
It is available either opaque or transparent coated (natural wood look).
Accoya's low maintenance requirements adds to its cost effectiveness and environmental credentials; sash windows shrink and swell less so they open and close freely all year round.

This customer had original single glazed draughty wooden windows and wanted new double glazed windows but wanted to keep the same style.
We recommended that they had their new windows made from Accoya as they did not know what timber they wanted but wanted something that would last and would not need much maintenance.
